Why is the Citi Field Field Bowl Game so expensive?
A game that is set to kick off at Citi field in Brooklyn, New York on January 15th, 2020 will set a new record for the highest price paid for a sporting event in U.S. history.
Citi Field has the capacity to host approximately 2.6 million people and is a three-minute drive from the Brooklyn Bridge, according to the Brooklyn Nets website.
The total price of the Citti Field game is estimated to be about $1.5 billion.
It will be the fourth-highest priced sporting event ever.
It is the biggest and most expensive ticketed sporting event, according the Sports Business Journal.
According to a report by the New York Times, the cost of the first two games were already in excess of $300 million.
A total of $130 million of the cost was covered by the city and the other $60 million was paid by the teams themselves.
The average attendance at the first Citi Bowl was only 3,073, according Bloomberg, while the average attendance for the second was 6,844.
The Citi Fields game will also be the first game in New York City since the 2016 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The venue was already a major destination for the Olympic Games.
